Museum Salling invites to photo competition in connection with new exhibition

Museum Salling has the pleasure of inviting both children and adults to an exciting photo competition in connection with Skive Museum’s new exhibition “Moments – Dialogues over Time”.
The exhibition presents works by renowned visual artist Bjarke Regn Svendsen, who explores the theme of PLACE. Bjarke Regn Svendsen finds his motifs in the small station town of Tistrup, but his works could have been painted in any town. The ordinary things that adorn his canvases could just as easily be found in your own town or in your old photo album.

Art and culture educator at MUSEUM SALLING Majken Høgh Olsen says: “The task is simple: Put on Bjarke Regn Svendsen’s glasses and experience Skive as he would have done it. Find places and capture your very own “snapshot in Skive” with your camera or cell phone. Inspire yourself with motifs such as downpipes, parked bicycles, road signs, cisterns, house facades, locks on containers and cars. All the trivial things that we often overlook in our daily routine get a new place on the canvas. Let your camera lens capture the elements of Skive that you would normally overlook. Ask yourself – can the seemingly insignificant things have an aesthetic value great enough to be rendered as a painting?” and she continues: “We invite both children (from 6 to 14 years) and adults (from 15 years) to participate in the competition and we are very much looking forward to seeing your moments; the winner will have their snapshot painted by Bjarke Regn Svendsen and get to keep the work.”

The competition runs until Tuesday, October 1 at 12 noon, where a jury consisting of visual artist Bjarke Regn Svendsen, City Council politician and chairman of MUSEUM SALLING’s board Morten Enggaard, art historian Majken Høgh Olsen and art school head Anja Høegh will review the photos received, after which the winning motif will be presented at Skive Museum that afternoon at 16.

You can follow Bjarke Regn Svendsen’s painting process from October 2024 until the beginning of January 2025 on a screen in the exhibition and on Skive Museum’s Instagram and Facebook profiles.

On February 7, 2025 at 15:00, Skive Museum invites you to the exhibition opening with all the submitted photos under the title “Snapshots in Skive”. All the snapshots will be stored in the Skive City Archive as a testimony of how you could experience Skive City in 2024.
After the end of the exhibition in March 2025, the winner can take their painting home.

Details about the competition, how to submit your photo, important dates and more can be found on the Skive Museum website.
