“Spring” – New exhibition at Skive Museum celebrates life by the Limfjord

The exhibition will be on display from Saturday, March 2 to Sunday, April 21, 2024

Skive Museum is the setting for Pernille Kjær’s exhibition Spring, which consists of the animated short film \”Spring\” and prints from the film and the animation process.

\”Spring” is a cinematic poem that through a series of vignettes creates a fascinating depiction of a house by the Limfjord, a community and a mysterious elf. Inspired by the metaphors of folklore, the film explores the intangible aspects of love and our deep relationship with nature.

Director Pernille Kjær lived on Thyholm for a number of years, where she was deeply moved by the harsh landscapes and life in the small communities. Her time by the fjord inspired her to create \”Spring\” as a tribute to the area’s residents and unique atmosphere.

In a farmhouse, a woman tries to lure the house spirit-a mischievous Nisse-with food. Spring is just around the corner, but the cold of winter stubbornly maintains its grip on the world. During the night, the elf sneaks into the woman’s dream. As day breaks, he melts away again, but something has changed; spring has arrived.

The film’s story is a beautiful but tragic love story between a human and a strange, deep-seated force in nature. The story circles around nature’s crucial role in shaping our lives and reflects on our futile attempts to control it.

The short film “Spring”, produced by Martina Scarpellii and around the animation community in Viborg in particular The Animation Workshop -VIA University College and Plastic Collective, had its Danish premiere at the prestigious Odense International Film Festival where it received special mention.

The sound design and music, recorded in the house on Thyholm by longtime musical collaborator, composer and musician Sofie Birch, create a compelling, poetic and engaging experience for the audience.

Pernille Kjær wrote the script herself and with her realistic hand-drawn animation style has managed to depict her own farmhouse on Thyholm and the surrounding peninsula with meticulous detail.

The breathlessly compelling visual narrative “Spring” adds a remarkable chapter to Pernille’s film and art production, proving her as an artist who always surprises, impresses and shakes our innermost weird feelings.

During the exhibition period at Skive Museum, visitors will be able to experience a number of Pernille’s other prints and short films in addition to Forår.
